Playing legendary US courses – Part II “Ocean Course” at Kiawah Island

Somehow every golf course of cause mirrors it’s surrounding. The 6000 m long playground does not only mean 18 holes to hit into, some 22 chips and around 28 putts, if you are lucky – moreover every course tells me a story, it’s own. This does not happen when I played the first three holes. It’s a story and a story has its intro, it’s body and a final, what is related to the beginning.

Kiawah had a major beginning, epic I would call it. Crossing over from Georgia over multiple small bridges over an enormous space of swamp, we entered the isles of the famous south coast of Nord America. Kiawah Island is known in particular for its links course next to the beach.

Kiawah Island and the most awesome „The Sanctuary“ 5star deluxe mansion presented themselves golden. The most wild, exclusive, nature blessed and with warm rays of a sundowner heavenly indulging scenery.

The mood of the arrival was magnificent. My soul could describe it only with my vibes floating along when I stood with Herbie on the terrace smelling the salty sea, the heavenly sundown, the light, warm and tender air. We hold the moment in our mind and ourselves in our arms. It was most beautiful.

We had a splendid night at The Sanctuary and good sleeps hold us long under the smooth sheets of our linings. The sun was hidden, but the air with a light „links adventure“ smell, craving and calling for us to come and play the „Ocean Course“.

The Ocean Course presented itself very scottish. A classy links course. Next to the beach and it’s dunes. There were mangrove kind of surrounds, with a lot of different animal species. We have been instructed not to look for our ball in the high grass or somewhere in the bushes, we would not like to meet snakes. „We are quite far away from the next hospital out here“ we have been told when we teed off for the first of this 18 stunning holes at Kiawah Island.

We played a terrific round, never forget the gator next to the 11th hole, fat and hidden in the pond waters, I could just imagine how huge it must have been under the muddy waters.

After the round is before the round, you sit down on the southern style terrace of the southern designed typically rocking chairs with a glass of beer enjoying the extremely beautiful places this planet has to offer. Much more as we ever will travel, happily to see one more of them, looking into the sundown again, letting the last 4 hours pass by, enjoying the sharing of sips from the cold glass of golden brew and a cigar.

Kiawah was inspiring. Magical.
